Stratification of cardiovascular risk by age showed a progressive increase in risk with age (figure 3).
Among participants aged under 40, 89.7% were at low risk, compared with only 32.8% of those aged over 60 (p<0.001). The proportion of participants at high or very high risk increased significantly with age, rising from 1.1% in the under-40s to 36.8% in the over-60s (p<0.001).
